About the Artist
My full artist name is Stormy Lightning Strike, but more commonly known as Stormy Strike.
Art, Film, & Writing:
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. I've taken several art classes, but I am also largely self-taught. I can work with a large range of mediums, but my personal favorites are model horse customizing, gauche on paper, and digital art.
My passion for film began at about 8 years old after watching the making of Jurassic Park. In 2009, at the age of 13, I started my first YouTube channel and began making videos. When I went to college, my focus was on film. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Narrative Production for Film and Electronic Arts in 2018.
Writing and story telling have always been another strong passion of mine. I didn't quite realize just how strong that passion was until the end of my college years. I hope to grow a career with writing and storytelling at its core.
Horses & Model Horses:
I have always loved horses growing up, especially Spirit and Rain from the 2002 Dreamworks film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. However, it wasn't until after elementary school that I started to get the horse crazy bug. It all kicked off when I went to a horse summer camp in 2007. After that, my middle school folders were of horses. My pencil box was littered with horse pictures. I had a blue horse lunch box and backpack. I had horse books, horse games, horse magazines, horse posters, and so on. I started taking horseback riding lessons once a week and still do today. I do not currently own my horse but would love to someday.
With model horses, I first started with collecting Schleich and Breyer Mini Whinnies. I do not remember when I exactly started collecting them, but it was around the time of when I caught "the horse crazy bug." I did have a few model horses before this. I had a Breyer Classic Spirit and Rain set growing up, and as a toddler I had various Breyers I played with in my backyard such as a Traditional Black Foundation Stallion & Palomino Western Prancing Horse. At the time, I didn't avidly collect Breyers however. I would say I officially started collecting Breyer Horses in early 2010. I started off with a "carpet herd" of some vintage models, but soon started buying new models and was truly hooked. My mom fed my addiction by buying me Breyer model after Breyer model. (Thanks mom!)
In 2011, I went to my first BreyerFest. It was a very fun experience, but I was still very new to collecting at the time and didn't realize what models I wanted the most yet, which were valuable, how BreyerFest worked, etc. I also did my first model horse show at BreyerFest 2011, and even though I didn't fully know what I was doing, I had enjoyed it. I soon picked up doing live showing in Region 2. I now tend to go to an average of 2 live model horse shows per year.
As of today, my collection of model horses has grown exponentially. I don't know the exact amount I currently have, but between the Schleich horses and Mini Whinnies that I had first started collecting, to all my model horses that I have now, including stablemates, Paddock Pals/Little Bits, Classics, and Traditionals, I estimate that I probably have well over 2,000. I currently collect mostly OF Breyer Traditionals and Stablemates, although I have other kinds mixed in as well, such as customs and Peter Stones. I am trying to downsize my collection to keep it a more manageable state, but such a task is difficult when Breyer continues to release such beautiful models!
My Other Hobbies/Interests and Collections:
I have many other hobbies and interests besides just horses, and these often time may become involved in my art or evolve into a collection.
Here are some of the other things I enjoy and/or collect: Dinosaurs things and Dinosaur figures (Papo, Schleich, Safari Ltd., etc.), Video Games (Planet Zoo, Planet Coaster, Red Dead Redemption II, Detroit: Become Human, Primal Carnage, ARK,) Movies and TV related things (Jurassic Park, Balto, Aliens/Xenomorph, How to Train Your Dragon, Pokemon, Digimon, Dexter, Disney's Dinosaur, Dragon Heart, Avatar, etc.) Dragons, Whales and Dolphins, Wolves, Stuffed Animals, Fursuiting/Mascots, Costumes, Cosplay, and who knows what else.
